Prajwala
Story Behind:
"Society makes you feel cheap. I chose not to feel like a victim. I am not a victim. I am a survivor. I speak about it with a lot of pride, because I am proud of what I have become today. I have not done a mistake. I don’t want my face to be blurred. I am not to be ashamed for. The guys that have done it should be hiding their faces and they should be blurring their faces." – Dr. Sunitha Krishnan
“Prajwala”, is the inspiring story of Dr. Sunitha Krishnan and what she stands for. She is an exceptional social activist and co-founder of Prajwala, an NGO that rescues, rehabilitates and reintegrates sex-trafficked victims into society. Dr. Sunitha Krishnan was gang raped by eight men when she was just 15, but this did not break her, instead made her stronger and fiercer! She has been working for over two decades for the welfare of the women and children who have suffered/are suffering from human trafficking and prostitution. This is a story of a survivor and a savior; a guiding light and ray of hope for several others!
With this work, the artist has attempted to capture
• the fierceness, resolve and commitment of Dr. Sunitha Krishnan,
• her impeccable strength and determination as depicted through the tree and
• through one wing, a reflection of the endless possibilities and for hope & future.
